Sheet Metal Stamping / Prototype Development

Validate Your Stamped Part Before Repeat Production

Check geometry, assembly fit, material and critical dimensions before moving into dedicated production tooling.

Hongming Sheng supports drawing review, prototype fabrication and sample-stage manufacturing for custom sheet metal stamping projects. The manufacturing route is reviewed around your part design, required quantity and current development stage.

Choose a Route for Your Project Stage

Design stability, geometry and expected repeat volume help guide the decision.

During Design Development

Prototype Fabrication

Consider this route when the design is still being evaluated or only a limited quantity is needed.

  • Lower initial tooling requirements
  • Parts for fit and assembly checks
  • Design revisions during development
For Repeat Production

Dedicated Stamping Tooling

Review dedicated tooling when the design is stable and repeat production is expected.

  • A defined, repeatable forming sequence
  • Multiple operations may be integrated
  • Production following tooling and sample approval

Define the sample's purpose first. Confirm which dimensions, assembly interfaces and forming requirements need validation before choosing fabrication, sample tooling or production tooling.

From Drawing Review to Repeat Production

Each stage has a clear review focus before the project moves forward.

  1. Drawing & DFM Review

Review material, thickness, bends, holes, forming depth, tolerances, finish and quantity. Identify difficult forming features, critical dimensions and whether the design is ready for tooling.

  2. Prototype & Sample Validation

Select fabrication, laser cutting, CNC bending, machining or simplified tooling according to geometry and quantity. Check fit, assembly, dimensions and material or surface requirements.

  3. Tooling Evaluation

Review the die structure, forming sequence, strip layout where applicable and secondary operations against the stable part design and expected repeat production volume.

  4. Repeat Production

After tooling and sample approval, move into the agreed manufacturing and inspection process using the approved drawings and project requirements.

What to Check Before Production Tooling

Agree on the features and requirements the sample needs to demonstrate.

Sheet metal stamping prototype manufacturing preview.
Part Geometry & Fit
Bends, formed features, hole positions, edges and assembly interfaces.
Material & Thickness
Confirm the specified material grade and sheet thickness before finalizing tooling.
Critical Tolerances
Identify dimensions that affect function, fit or downstream assembly.
Secondary Processes
Confirm tapping, machining, welding, plating, coating and assembly requirements.
