Deep Draw Metal Stampings & Formed Parts

Deep Drawing · Metal Forming · OEM Production
Custom deep-drawn metal parts built from your drawing or sample

Hongming Sheng supports custom deep-drawn and formed components for OEM applications. We review part depth, diameter, corner radii, wall condition, material behavior and expected quantity before proposing a tooling and production route.

Deep drawing may reduce welded joints and create strong, seamless shapes when the part geometry and material are suitable.

When Deep Drawing Is a Practical Manufacturing Route

Part Geometry

Deep drawing is commonly considered for recessed, cup-shaped, cylindrical or box-like parts that require continuous formed walls.

Production Planning

Tooling investment, forming stages, scrap, secondary operations and projected volume must be evaluated together—not only the piece price.

Functional Requirements

A formed one-piece structure can be useful where leak paths, weld seams, stiffness or appearance are important.

Material Behavior

Ductility, temper, thickness consistency, grain direction and surface condition influence drawability and the risk of splitting or wrinkling.

From Drawing Review to Repeat Production

Geometry ReviewEvaluate depth, diameter, radii, flange and critical features.
Material ReviewConfirm grade, temper, thickness and finish requirements.
Tooling PlanDefine draw stages, trimming, piercing and restrike operations.
Sample ValidationCheck dimensions, wall condition, surface and function.
Production ControlMaintain the approved process and inspection criteria.

Key Features Our Engineers Review

Draw Ratio & Part Depth

Deep or narrow shapes may require several drawing operations instead of one stroke.

Corner and Bottom Radii

Very small radii can increase local strain, thinning and the risk of cracking.

Wall Thickness & Thinning

Critical areas should be identified so material flow and acceptable wall variation can be reviewed.

Flange and Trim Allowance

Extra material may be needed for holding, material flow and final trimming.

Openings and Side Features

Holes, slots, threads and side cutouts are often added after drawing to protect their position and shape.

Cosmetic Surfaces

Visible faces, grain direction, polishing and allowable forming marks should be defined on the drawing.

Design note: A 3D model shows the target shape, but the 2D drawing should identify material, thickness, critical tolerances, wall requirements, cosmetic surfaces and secondary processes. These details affect tooling and inspection planning.

Deep Drawing Compared with Other Routes

RouteOften Considered WhenItems to Evaluate
Deep DrawingA continuous recessed or hollow shape is required for repeat production.Tooling investment, material flow, number of draws, trimming and projected quantity.
Stamping & BendingThe part is primarily made from flat features, flanges and bends.Bend access, corner relief, welding needs and assembly method.
Spinning or FormingSelected rotationally symmetrical shapes or lower-volume requirements are involved.Geometry, tolerance, surface condition and cycle time.
MachiningVery low volume, thick walls or precision features dominate the design.Material removal, cost, lead time and final weight.

Inspection Focus for Deep-Drawn Parts

Dimensional ControlOverall depth, diameter, flange, hole position and mating dimensions.
Forming ConditionWrinkles, splits, thinning, distortion, burr and surface marks.
Secondary OperationsTrimming, piercing, tapping, welding, polishing, plating or coating.
