CATEGORIESA supplier influences tooling cost, part consistency, lead time and the stability of repeat production. A useful evaluation starts with your drawing and the complete manufacturing scope.
Use the checklist below to compare engineering support, tooling, processes, inspection and communication before making your decision.
Focus on how the supplier will handle your specific part, tooling and production requirements.
Review how material thickness, bends, holes, formed features, tolerances and quantity affect the stamping route. Manufacturing concerns should be discussed before tooling begins.
Which features increase forming difficulty or tooling complexity? What practical alternatives would you suggest for difficult features?
Discuss die structure, forming sequence and the tooling route: progressive, single-operation, forming or deep-draw tooling where applicable.
Why does the proposed tooling suit the expected production volume? How will tooling adjustments and maintenance be handled?
Check stamping, blanking, piercing, bending, forming and coining, together with any tapping, machining, welding, riveting or assembly the part needs.
Are specified finishes such as plating, powder coating, anodizing or passivation included? Who coordinates each required operation?
Inspection should address the drawing and the part's actual function. Identify critical dimensions and agree on inspection requirements before production.
How will critical dimensions be inspected? Can the specified material and inspection documentation be provided?
Confirm experience with the specified sheet metal, including carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, brass or other project-defined materials.
How do the specified material grade and thickness affect the forming process and tooling plan?
Confirm the latest drawing revision and resolve engineering questions before production. Changes need to reach tooling, production and inspection teams.
How are drawing revisions confirmed, approved and communicated when the design or process changes?
Compare tooling investment, material utilization and scrap, secondary operations, inspection and packaging alongside the unit price and expected repeat volume.
Which costs are included in the quotation? What assumptions apply to tooling, order quantity and repeat production?
Send your part requirements and expected quantity to our team.
Use follow-up questions to clarify the technical and commercial scope.
| Clear Response | Follow-up Needed |
|---|---|
| Technical review: Questions address the drawing, application, material and finish. | A price is offered before technical requirements, material or finish are clarified. |
| Tooling plan: The supplier explains process options and tooling assumptions. | The proposed tooling route or its assumptions cannot be explained. |
| Inspection: Critical tolerances and project-specific checks are discussed before quotation. | Quality claims are broad and inspection criteria remain undefined. |
| Revision control: The current drawing revision and changes are confirmed. | The latest revision or the handling of design changes is unclear. |
| Quotation scope: Included operations and pricing assumptions are explained. | It is unclear which operations, finishes or other requirements are included. |
A complete set of requirements gives suppliers a consistent basis for review and quotation.
Send your drawing and project requirements. Our engineering team can review the stamping process, tooling options and manufacturing scope.
Confidential OEM support: Customer drawings, CAD files, samples and technical specifications are treated as confidential. NDA agreements are available for your project.
