CNC Machining for Engineering Plastics
Product content

Engineering plastics require careful control of cutting heat, clamping force and tool condition. Hongming Sheng manufactures custom plastic components according to customer drawings for prototypes and repeat production.

Plastic CNC machining is not simply the metal-machining process applied to a softer material. Each polymer responds differently to heat, moisture, cutting pressure and internal stress. The machining strategy should therefore be selected according to the material and component geometry.

Engineering Plastics We Machine

PEEKFor components requiring temperature resistance, chemical resistance and dimensional stability.
POM / AcetalFor low-friction parts, guides, spacers, gears and mechanical components.
PTFEFor seals, insulating parts and chemically resistant, low-friction components.
Nylon / PAFor bushings, rollers, guides and wear-resistant mechanical components.
PolycarbonateFor transparent covers, guards, housings and impact-resistant components.
ABS and OthersAdditional engineering polymers can be reviewed according to the application.

Why Plastic Parts Need Special Attention

Cutting Heat

Excessive heat may soften the material, affect dimensions or reduce edge quality.

Clamping Pressure

Flexible or thin-wall parts may deform when excessive holding force is applied.

Internal Material Stress

Removing a large amount of material may release internal stress and change the finished geometry.

Moisture Absorption

Nylon and certain other polymers may change dimensions according to their moisture condition.

Burrs and Chipping

Sharp tools and suitable cutting parameters help control burrs, cracking and chipped edges.

Our Plastic Machining Approach

  • Review the polymer grade and material condition.
  • Select suitable cutting tools, speeds and feed rates.
  • Control heat accumulation during machining.
  • Use appropriate clamping for thin or flexible parts.
  • Consider roughing and finishing for stress-sensitive geometry.
  • Inspect critical dimensions after the component has stabilized.
Important:The most suitable machining method depends on the plastic grade, component size, wall thickness, tolerance and operating environment. Final capability is confirmed after drawing review.

Plastic and Metal Parts in One Assembly

Many industrial assemblies combine CNC-machined plastic components with aluminum, stainless steel or other metal parts. Hole positions, mating surfaces, fastener interfaces, operating clearance and thermal expansion should be reviewed together.

We can manufacture plastic and metal components according to the same assembly requirements, helping customers reduce dimensional coordination between different suppliers.

Information Needed for Quotation

  • Latest STEP, IGES or other available 3D file
  • PDF drawing with critical dimensions and tolerances
  • Plastic grade, color and material specification
  • Prototype and estimated batch quantities
